My folder of shame

Written at 01:20, on Tuesday 8 November 2005. Tags: personal .

Ever since I started with Getting Things Done, I’ve found it so convenient to have a “Next Actions” list, since it saves you from actually having to do things. Instead, you can lay back relaxed since all the “stuff” is captured and thus “under control”. In other words, it’s great for not getting things done! It has been disastrous for my blogging, for example, making the numbers of drafts twice as large as the number of published posts.

Jeffrey Veen asks what’s in your folder of shame (i.e. your blog drafts). So, in order to put some social pressure on me, here’s mine:

  • What is usability?
  • Researching municipal website accessibility
  • Mambo books
  • Global site navigation
  • Crappy code from common webservices
  • Google Reader
  • Small usability improvements
  • The ultimate 404
  • Footers are the new black
  • Mambo easy to use?
  • Retiring follow-up
  • Resizable comment area
  • Beautify those forms!
  • CSS 3 rounded corners
  • Textile 4.0 disable preview entries
  • Printer-friendly pages entries
  • Javascript Table of Contents
  • Using CSS table properties for layout
  • Now valid HTML strict

While some titles may never see daylight, I now have to find a way to soothe my consciousness again!

In my folder of shame outside the blogging content on the top of my list still is: reading, not scanning ‘GTD’… ffs being ill for a few days hasn’t even improved that score. Still 2 days to go befor I plan to go back to work, but I’m afraid the new Amazon order might come in by then… grrr… I do find Basecamp has helped me a great deal in actually gtd!

ps: I do like your article on WISYWIG editors! No suggestions there for me and thankx for not letting that one linger in your ‘folder of shame’

Pirates of the Amazon Documentation

""Pirates of the Amazon" was an artistic parody, part of our media research and education at the Media Design M.A. course at the Piet Zwart Institute of the Willem de Kooning Academy Hogeschool Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It was a practical experiment on interface design, information access and currently debated issues in media culture. We were surprised by the attentions and the strong reactions this project received. Ultimately, the value of the project lies in these reactions. It is a ready-made and social sculpture of contemporary internet user culture. "

DD_belatedPNG: better PNG background-image support in IE6

"If you attempt to use a 24-bit translucent PNG image as a background image or as an <IMG/> element's SRC attribute, IE6 yields an unsightly grey (sometimes greenish) background behind the image's translucent colors. Using the MSIE AlphaImageLoader filter to fix the grey background issue renders both background-repeat and background-position unusable! This script reclaims all your background positioning controls by avoiding AlphaImageLoader, AND fixes the grey background issue!"

Ten Recipes for Persuasive Content

"In many of my columns, I have touted the importance of persuasive, or influential, content and shared relevant theories and arguments, sprinkling in some practical tips and examples along the way. This column brings together a collection of practical tips, or recipes, for persuasive content. " Note how the article itself is also very persuasive and uses its own tips. Very nice!
