Concentra is one of the largest Belgian media publishing agencies, with several newspapers and websites. To experiment with citizen journalism and user-generated content, the idea of a ‘going out’ website was born. In a collaboration with the Media & Design Acadamy, students were asked to create a visual design for this website. My contribution was selected as the basis for the website, and together with some students we worked out several pages in Photoshop that demonstrated all the required functionality.
After that, the design was delivered to a third-party ISV, who would create templates of it for their CMS. I worked out personas and scenarios for usability testing, but unfortunately, the ISV had many technical difficulties. After much delay, the newspaper editors decided that it wasn’t worth the effort and canceled the project entirely.

This mini-website was created for a graphic design course at C-MD. It was mostly meant as an introduction to Photoshop, but I went a bit overboard and used the Mootools Javascript library to add an image gallery.
The main goal of the assignment was to originally depict an artist or art period, making creative use of foreground and background. At the time I was still trying to read Gödel, Escher and Bach, so I thought it would be fun to use Escher. He created a lot of lithos and drawings so the paper backgorund would be a good fit for his drawings. I integrated his work into this. Another part of the assignment was to use a repeating background, which is a very thankful job since Escher’s work is much about repeating and recursivity.
Unfortunately, I didn’t succeed in integrating the navigation arrows into the design, so they look as if they don’t quite belong there.

Interaction and visual design for the Libersy Booking application (which was then still called Justbookit Agenda). Although the visual design has been updated and revised multiple times, the interaction design is still mostly used.

Interaction-design, HTML, CSS and Javascript of the Kinderrijk website and Intranet. Since this would be built completely in CakePHP, I used a block-based system for the HTML wireframes in which functionality was compartementalised in small PHP files that are included when necessary. This made it a very flexible system that was easy to built and maintain.

I built the Moulin Blues festival website in Drupal, which allows the oganizers to maintain it themselves. Thanks to clever use of CSS, it’s possible to easily update the design to the new visual theme each year, which is created by Henk Baetsen
